AP - A Practical Solution for the crisis

Just before Kurukshetra war, Lord Krishna in Mahabharata alerts Dhritarashtra:
సారపు ధర్మమున్ విమల సత్యము పాపము చేత, బొంకుచే ...

loosely translated:
When things are about to go wrong, capable people should not stay silent.
If they do, then the happenings will eventually burn them too...

So, here are some practical steps that our capable politicians should explore to solve the current crisis.

0.) Forget the history. All political parties played opportunistic till date. Come clean. Start afresh.

1.) With the current state of affairs, T is inevitable. But a consultation/convincing of SA is also required.

So, announce a time bound consultation process.
At the higher end, it can be a 10 years moratorium on T (instead of a 10yr shared capital)...
at the lower end, let it be the next 6 months before the 2014 elections.

But, let the government reach out to bring people to the table.

I prefer a 10ys moratorium, as that is what proposed for a shared capital & that is what required for the rest of the items below.

2.) during these 10 yrs, develop 3 cities, one each in three regions to address the development concerns...that will reduce the affiliations towards Hyd

3.) ensure enough academic, industrial, agricultural growth in all 3 regions...that will ensure Jobs in the local regions & reduce the affiliations towards Hyd. We can have Surat, Baroda & Anand in AP

4.) implement the river inter-linking, with a garland canal... in whatever portions it is possible.. that will alleviate the water fears

5.) during the 10yrs, form the ever pending states reorganization committee (SRC) and review all the pending states requests... that will suit the SA's demand that a fair process is followed

6.) let the SRC propose a standard procedure for creation of new state. The current constitutional provisions are detrimental to the federal structure of India. The way congress proposed AP bifurcation, one day (if it has enuf numbers in parliament) it can even propose the same for say, Gujarat.. that Gujarat be divided into 2.

7.) Have checkpoint discussions, arrive at consensus on bifurcation, decide on the new capital and start handing over from... say, 8 years from now.. At any checkpoint, if consensus is for United AP, let that be...

8.) There can be many more such confidence building & consensus measures. At the end, all stakeholders should prosper and be happy. That's what everybody wants.

In the current political arena, the above charter suits to BJP.
They can stick to their commitment to T, at the same time, they can gain in SA by proposing a time bound consensus process. They would make big gains in the SA.

Is Modi listening?

Nandi Timmana - మాకొలది జానపదులకు

This entry has reference to a blogger's comment on my earlier article at
http://witreal.blogspot.in/2010/05/tenali-ramakrishna-poems-meaning.html

the comment was:
Can you please also explain remaining poem, where Makolodi jaana padulaku....and Gaganadhuni and nagadhuni words's usage.

The poem is:
మా కొలది జానపదులకు
నీ కవనపు ఠీవి యబ్బునే! కూపనట
ద్భేకములకు గగనధునీ
శీకరముల చెమ్మ, నంది సింగయ తిమ్మా!

The meaning is:

This is a poem that praises Nandi Timmana.
There are stories around who said this.
Some say, Tenali Ramakrishna said this, some other say that some bhatraju said this.

Other story says that Krishna Devaraya changed the poem by replacing గగనధునీ with నాకధునీ (నాక = స్వర్గ)

Poverty Line Politics

While critics are targeting MontekSingh Ahluwalia on his new Rs 28/- a day poverty line, there is a different perspective that many are ignoring.

For a family of 4 (with a single wage earner + spouse + 2kids), the poverty line of Rs 28/- a day means that the family has an income of Rs 3360/- per month (that is 28/- X 4 members X 30days)

Doesn't that look to be acceptable?

For instance, one of my classmates works as a clerk in a small town and earns 8000/- per month. He takes care of 5 dependants (2 parents + wife + 2 kids). So, in their family, the earnings are 44/- per-person per-day. He has a decent life & doesn't consider himself as below-poverty-line!!

Cloud Computing – of a different kind

I never seem to catch up with the advances of my tech fraternity! :)

While I am so dumb when it comes to latest tech trends, this one beats all!

Translation: Infosys is introducing new cloud software solution that will let electromagnetic waves to penetrate through even dark/dense clouds, says Infosys CEO Kris Gopalakrishnan. Currently, dense clouds are interrupting the flow of electromagnetic waves. The new cloud software will solve these problems.

btw, to be fair to poor Kris, he seems to have used the following phrases (noted from another press statement), which our reporter spiced up:
-- need to grow the "penetration" of cloud computing
-- beginning of the next "wave" of innovation and change
-- with mobile devices, the paradigm of computing was changing

Blogging, Online Behavior & Voyeurism

Earlier, while reading some blogs, I felt that most of the online behavior is nothing short of exhibitionism & voyeurism.

Recently I came across a research article by Harvard Business School Prof Mikolaj Jan Piskorski, who did some empirical research on this topic. Here are some excerpts from that study:

===========================================

[snip...]
"People just love to look at pictures," says Piskorski. "That's the killer app of all online social networks. Seventy percent of all actions are related to viewing pictures or viewing other people's profiles."...

Another draw of photos (and of Social Networking sites in general) is that they enable a form of voyeurism. In real life there is a strong norm against prying into other people's lives. But online enables "a very delicate way for me to pry into your life without really prying," the researcher says. "Harvard undergrads do it all the time. They know all about each other before they meet face to face. 'Oh, you're that guy that did that internship in D.C. last summer.' "

Piskorski has also found deep gender differences in the use of sites. The biggest usage categories are men looking at women they don't know, followed by men looking at women they do know. Women look at other women they know. Overall, women receive two-thirds of all page views.

"This was a very big surprise: A lot of guys in relationships are looking at women they don't know," says Piskorski. "It's an easy way to see if anyone might be a better match." Again, online networks act as cover.

[snip ends...]
